The pull toward the external is so strong that usually people are not even aware of it. Just as you are reading this right now there are inexplicable forces within you which are pushing you to seek comfort and attach in some way to the material world. Whether we are focused on career, academia, hobbies, or even spiritual ambitions, as long as we are identified with our outward, physical activities of daily life, we will remain trapped in it, with barely any true consciousness to be awake internally.
